This year department stores outdid themselves, with themes that focused squarely on the best that NYC has to offer. “To New York With Love,” was the message of Bergdorf Goodman’s opulent displays paying tribute to the New York Philharmonic, the American Museum of Natural History, the New-York Historical Society and other exemplars of the city’s vibrant cultural life. Lord & Taylor emphasized “The Best And The Brightest.” Some focused on city values: harmony at Macy’s (“The Perfect Gift Brings People Together”) and Barneys’ whimsical take on being socially conscious, with a rainbow zebra representing “diversity and acceptance.”
