Mountain High
"If you had the next 30 days to do whatever you wanted, would you go to your day job and eat the same things for dinner?" That's the enigmatic question that Chris Richards answers when asked about the ambient echoes of the chorused falsettos of Purple Blaze. It's his first solo record as Ris Paul Ric, and it's quite a departure from the arty protest dance punk of his days as the lead singer of the recently defunct Q And Not U. But Ris Paul Ric is remaining as enigmatic as possible.
"No way. You'd be hang-gliding in the Himalayas or something, right? My first impulse was to use that freedom to do something quieter. In that sense, this project has been a very cleansing and meditative experience for me."
Catharsis can be achieved along with Ric on Friday at Northsix. Thanks to new security precautions, hang gliders must be checked at the door.
