Pedestrian Killed Near Times Sq. ID’d as N.J. Dad

The 59 year-old pedestrian who was struck and killed by a truck near Times Sq. on November 17 has been identified by police as Robert Sala of Manalapan, NJ.
Police said he was walking eastbound on W. 47th shortly before 7 a.m. when he was struck by a Ford truck driven by a 49 year-old man.
The driver was heading west on W. 47th St. when he made a left hand turn onto Seventh Ave. and struck the man in the cross walk. He was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS responders. The driver and vehicle remained on the scene. Police said the investigation is ongoing via its Collision Investigation Squad.
Sala is survived by his wife Ann and daughter Kate. Visitation was held Nov. 21 at the Freeman Manalapan Marlboro Funeral Home in Englishtown, NJ.
A friend named Christine Greta wrote to Sala’s wife on the memory page: “There are no words that can be said to alleviate your heartache. I am so very sorry for your and Kate’s loss. I still remember us in your room telling me how much you loved him, even back then at 17 maybe.smh. Life never makes any sense, but I am sure he is at peace in heaven. I know it is not much of a consolation, and I know nothing right now could possibly fill that void. Please keep your family and friends who love you close they will keep you sane especially now. Hugs.”
