Little Island’s Music and Dance Festival

For Little Island’s second summer season, they’re offering 11 days of music and dance from an abundance of genres and styles. Tony Award winner Michael McElroy along with Broadway’s Ayodele Casel and Tonya Beard have co-curated a roster of New York-based artists that will perform each day. Among the themes are “Soul to Soul: Black Women in Music,” “A Night of Musical Masters” and “Generation Dance!” General admission is $45 and those under 25 and over 65 get in for $25.
Central Park Summerstage
Rumsey Playfield Central Park
Few outdoor venues are as special as Rumsey Playfield in Central Park. And this summer the city is celebrating a full return to form with a full roster of emerging and established artists from across the genre spectrum. Those set to perform include Belle and Sebastian, Lucy Dacus, Electric Fields, Waxahatchee, Michael Franti, Brave Girls, Black Midi, Sharon Van Etten, and many more. Tickets vary in price, and many shows are free to the public.
92Y Jazz in July

The 92nd Street Y is offering four special nights of jazz performances, bringing together artists both long-celebrated and those on the come-up. The festival will see three generations of jazz piano masters share the stage and introduce the likes of vocalist Samara Joy and saxophonist Nicole Glover — both of whom have been pegged as rising stars. The final night will be headlined by two prominent figures in jazz: guitarist Mike Stern and saxophonist Chris Potter. Balcony/orchestra tickets are $50. The programs will also be available to stream at home for $20.
Social Dance at The Oasis

From June through August, Lincoln Center is putting on a free social dance series as part of its extensive Summer for the City programming. The Oasis at Josie Robertson Plaza will serve as the dance floor for just about every flavor of music and dance, including merengue tipico, bachata, salsa, lindy hop, western swing, tango, the hustle, freestyle, ballroom, and more. Each event begins with a quick dance tutorial before attendees are free to let loose.

The Rooftop at Pier 17 offers one of the city’s most singular concert experiences: located on the edge of the East River, concertgoers can take in the views of the Brooklyn Bridge and Lower Manhattan skyline, along with a night of great music. This summer you can check out a variety of acts, including Koffee, Devo, The Offspring, Blondie, Tash Sultana, Billy Strings, Flogging Molly, Greensky Bluegrass, Franz Ferdinand, Iron & Wine, Elvis Costello, Bikini Kill, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, along with many more. Ticket prices vary.
