A 33-year-old man was shot to death near a NYCHA housing complex on the Upper West Side on Thursday, April 9, police confirmed to The Spirit. No arrests have been made, and an investigation is ongoing.

First responders discovered Rashaun Hopkins in front of a residential building on W. 104th Street just before 5 p.m., near Manhattan Avenue, cops said. He was across the street from the Frederick Douglass Houses, where he reportedly lived, although in a building a few blocks away.

Hopkins was rushed to Mt. Sinai Morningside, where he was pronounced dead. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.

A possible suspect was seen fleeing west down W. 104th St. on a moped, reportedly wearing all black, although no name has been released by the NYPD.

People have since mourned Hopkins on the Frederick Douglass Houses Facebook page.

Under a post that reads “Rashaun love Hopkins rest in peace,” which was accompanied by photos of Hopkins, the user Alexis Stewart wrote: “Handsome young man. This is tragic. Much love to his family. Put the guns down.” She attached a prayer hands emoji.

A user named “Sk Buss” implied that he was close with Hopkins, writing “this was my bro FrFr.”
