Double Stabbing in Hell’s Kitchen Kills Man Who Tried to Stop Attack
A 31-year-old suspect was charged with attempted murder of a woman inside her West 47th St. apartment and murder of a man who had answered her frantic call for help.

A fatal stabbing in Hell’s Kitchen left one dead and another injured Sept 9 but police quickly apprehended a suspect who sometimes lived in the apartment on West 47th St. where the attacks occurred and charged him with murder and attempted murder.
Police responded to the scene at 440 W. 47th St. and both victims were rushed by EMS to Mount Sinai Morningside, where the woman was said to be in stable condition from stabs to her back and torso but the male identified as John Carlos Mesa died from deep stab wounds to his torso
Less than 24 hours later, cops arrested 31-year-old Carlos Andres Delgadolopez, and charged him with attempted murder of the woman, who was not identified and murder of Mesa, a man who said to be homeless at the time but who was called by the woman.
Mesa was trying to calm down a raging Delgadolpez after he had stabbed the woman inside her apartment at on W. 47th St., between Ninth and Tenth Ave, according to prosecutors.
Prosecutors said the suspect lived for long stretches of time in the woman’s apartment and on the afternoon of the fatal encounter, she had barricaded herself into her bedroom after being thrown to the ground and attacked by the defendant.
She then placed a call to Mesa, who according to prosecutors.
The NYPD responded to the assault in progress at approximately 2:45 p.m. and blocked off the street between Ninth and Tenth Avenues for several hours creating rush hour traffic headaches.
Mesa had staggered outside the apartment building with two deep torso stab wounds.
Police recovered a knife at the scene. Prosecutors said that on questioning, Delgadolpez confessed to the attacks and identified the knife that cops recovered at the scene was the one had used to stab his victims.
A judge denied bail. Delgadolpez is due back in court on Sept. 16.
